Once you’ve completed your list of initial requirements, step back and think about what you just wrote. Close your eyes and imagine what it would take for you to achieve those particular goals. Again, who would you need to be? What would you need to do? What would you need to have? And do you really want all of these things?

Again, write it all down, with each requirement on a separate line. This will form the basis of your medium and short-term goals, or what we’ll collectively refer to as milestones.

Repeat the process for each successive set of requirements – step back, think, close your eyes and imagine. Who would you need to be? What would you need to do? What would you need to have? And do you really want all of these things?

Continue until you find that you’ve “met up with” your current self on the other side. For example, if you’re imagining what you would need to have and you realize that you already have it, stop there and put a checkmark next to that line item, indicating that you’ve already accomplished it. Continue imagining on the other line items until they all have checkmarks next to them.

Guess what? You now have a detailed roadmap showing the route from where you are now, to where you want to be. And you probably learned a lot about yourself in the process. Now it’s just a question of nailing down the step-by-step “how to’s” and then taking action.
